Vegan Irot

Sat May 9, 2009, 5:04 AM
Hey guys!

I've been doing a vegetarian change of life for a little bit, both for diet and the animal cruelty aspect. I really have found vegetables I never knew I liked, like shiitake mushrooms or eggplant. Mmm.

I've lost like 10 pounds in a month, but, my guilty pleasure is dairy and I am pretty lactose intolerant even eating baked goods with milk...gets me sick (but I do it anyway).

So, I figured I would go vegan for a month to see if I can cook and just feel and be healthier. I also want to drop more chub. ^_^ If I cannot stay healthy, since any diet can be, I will go back to vegetarianism until I can be healthy as a vegan. I'm not the best cook.

Now, for some reason people seem to get irked when people want to be vegan, but I really have no qualms with others eating meat. I do not think that people are not meant to eat meat or dairy, but at the same time, it does not have to be in a diet. Just felt I should add that since some of my family aren't supportive. o.O

I just think their needs to be a lot of revision in the meat and farming industry, that's it.

So, anyone have any good vegan recipes? I have some, but I'm always open to more!!

Oh, and I received a 3.81 this semester, and I had senioritis. That's pretty awesome...I actually feel good about myself for once.

*gives a colossal hugs to all* Cheers!

My friend John goes on occasional vegan stints for a couple of months and loses a LOT of weight every time. It's cool to do, and quite often makes people feel really healthy and... clean, internally, but I've seen a lot of examples of vegans just going overboard and turning into sallow husks. Usually, it seems to work out well, though.

Also, even though meat is tasty, tasty murder, I do also hate the way it's become a perverted, mass-production type industry. Harshes my mel', man.

Yea, I already lost half a pound in a day. Haha, now my cooking attempts didn't go so well tastily (new word I think ;D) yet.
I think I have a way to go before I worry about being underweight, lmao.

Yes, meat is undeniably tasty, and I'm glad you understand the corruption of some of the meat industries. I don't see anything wrong with meat consumption really, though I feel so much better without it...that also be do the crappy quality of the meat at the restaurants we eat out at in America. Boo.

That's good to hear. I'm not exactly a vegetarian, but I have been drastically reducing the amount of meat I consume, sticking to a lot of delicious vegetarian recipes (most of which involve a lot of pasta. Them Italian genes, I tell ya!). I can't really give up dairy since soy milk is actually very bad for me, but I figure if I can eventually ween myself off of meat, I'll be fine. My reasons for going this path is largely because as I am getting older, I feel that I need to eat healthier. It seems silly, but it works for me.

Anyway, this is about you. I think it's great that you're doing well on this so far, and I agree with your reasons for doing it. I hate how the industry works, so hopefully I can successfully go vegetarian myself.

I wish I could share recipes with you...! All of mine are improvised or salad. D:

Are you allergic to soy? I don't drink much of it as is; not my favorite thing and honestly I only need it for cereal and baked goods...and that's exactly the crap that makes me pork up so it's very limited in my diet. Milk was no better for me tho. D:

Yea, I feel a lot healthier; my temptation though is cheese, which is another big evil that was in my diet too much. xD I eventually will go back to vegetarian, but being vegan really helps me to eat and appreciate purely veggie or fruit foods and make them taste good. As a vegetarian, I didn't eat originally much meat as it was, and I still could eat just about everything...sooo, diet wise it didn't help me. But, of course, that's me, lmao.

However, cutting out the meat and at least if you limit dairy (I dunno how much you eat) made me feel sooo good. I am lactose intolerant so that is part of it, but other than having clearer skin, and noooo body odor whatsoever (gross, but amazing haha), I lost weigh without lifting a foot originally.

But, yea, if it helps to improve your health, try it out for a month and make an effort to go online and get recipes. The health benefits come first, and the animal thing is only an added benefit. xD
